The Vander Wal herd was started in 1985 with Jeff's first Shorthorn 4-H calf. We started with a diversified genetic base from breeders like Kevin Vander Wal, Rick Osterday, Rick Osvog and Jim Hegg.  In recent years, we have added new Shorthorn herd sires from the Good Family and Ward Bakenhus to continue our improvement in quality livestock.  We have also added a wide base of popular Shorthorn genetics with our A.I. program.

Calves sell off of the farm in the fall as well as consignments at the Watertown Winter Farm Show held every February in Watertown, SD. Everyone is welcome to come and look at our livestock at any time; give us a call!
